Designworks Architecture’s design build project “Old Red,” in Carbondale Colorado, has come quite a ways since we posted the first blog entry about it. The owners have received a certificate of occupancy and are living there full time now. There are still some final details and some exterior work to be done; however, the project is nearly finished. Please check out the interior pictures below. We are really happy with how the exposed logs came out in the kitchen renovation. Just enough exposure to remind one that this is a cabin, but not enough to be overpowering.
The door trim throughout was designed and built by our own Eric Doud. Based on a simplified classical architrave, their clean lines and lack of victorian molding is a modern interpretation of classical detailing, yet still elegant enough to be considered a classical or traditional architectural detail.
The banister hand rail was also designed and built by Eric. Built from construction waste, he was able to recycle from the discard pile. An ethic we try to adhere to as much as possible on our projects, reusing and re-purposing discarded materials. In this case going green saved money and created a unique design opportunity.
